Exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints open in Stromness

A new exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints has opened at the Pier Arts Centre, in Stromness.

Umi no Hikari, Mori no Kage – Ocean Lights, Forest Shadows includes new and recent woodblock prints by Teruo Isomi, president of Aichi Prefecture University of Fine Art and Music, in Nagoya Japan.

This exhibition features new prints, made by Isomi during a recent visit to Orkney, which further explore his lifelong fascination with the sea.

His concern following the devastating tsunami and subsequent nuclear accident in Japan has focused his attention on Orkney waters and the research being undertaken to harness sustainable and safe energy resources from the sea.

The exhibition runs until November 1.
