Farmers urged to remain vigilant after virus confirmed in Orkney
NFU Scotland is advising livestock keepers to be vigilant for the Schmallenberg virus (SBV) after a ram in Orkney, brought in from Shropshire, tested positive for the disease this week.
Although because of the recent cold weather it is unlikely the virus will spread, the union has stressed the need for all livestock farmers importing stock from SBV-risk areas to test animals for the disease.
