The bow doors on the North Isles ferries are now fully operational after being out of action for a period of months.

Captain Alistair Wylie, ferry operations manager at Orkney Ferries, said this afternoon, Friday, that he was very glad to have bow visors back in action, after two unrelated incidents onboard the ferries led them to being out of action.

This has meant that people travelling with vehicles on the ferries have  had to reverse on board.

The visor on the Earl Sigurd has been out of action since January, and in the case of the Earl Thorfinn, it has been out of use since May last year.

Captain Wylie also said that he wished to thank those travelling on the ferries in recent months for their patience while the repairs were carried out.
