Five step forward to be Orkney’s next MSYP

Five young folk have put their names forward as candidates for Orkney’s two seats in the next Scottish Youth Parliament.

Voting takes place in March and the prospective politicians are now campaigning hard to secure votes from their peers.

The five candidates are Samuel Murray (16) from Deerness, Thorfinn Moffat (14) from Shapinsay, Hamish Auskerry (16) from Kirkwall, Iona Torbet (15) also from Kirkwall (but attends Stromness Academy) and Euan Loudon (22) again from Deerness.

Interviews with all the candidates will be broadcast on BBC Radio Orkney’s morning programme across the week beginning February 24.

All those aged between 12- 25 in Orkney will be eligible to vote in the election which will be carried out online between March 7 and March 14.  Voters should have their Young Scot card at the ready, as they’ll need to use the registration number printed on it to take part.  To vote visit http://elections.youngscot.org
