Freight ship due back next week
Serco NorthLink have given an update on how the repairs on their freight ship Helliar have been progressing, and have said that the ship could be back in service next week.
The ship has been out of action since the end of July after suffering from rudder problems.
A Serco NorthLink Ferries spokesperson said: “M.V Helliar was taken to dry dock in Birkenhead following the rudder problem which was identified in Aberdeen. On arrival, it became apparent that both rudders and associated rudder stocks required immediate attention.
“Work on both rudders and stocks is currently being undertaken by specialist contractors in Denmark. During this time, the vessel is also undergoing work scheduled for her January 2015 dry dock, negating the need for her removal from service in late December/early January.
“We anticipate MV Helliar’s return to service next week (commencing August 25) once we are satisfied that the necessary scope of work has been completed. In the meantime, M.V Hildasay continues to operate a revised freight schedule and we continue to liaise closely with all stakeholders.”
