Homelessness in Orkney on the rise

The level of homelessness in Orkney is continuing to increase.

In total there were 155 homeless presentations to the council in 2011/12, up from a total of 144 the previous year.

The figures were presented in a noting report to councillors at the Education, Leisure and Housing Committee of the OIC.

Councillors were also updated on the various reasons people gave for being homeless. Topping the table of figures were relationship breakdown, and people being asked to leave by family and friends.
