Longhope Lifeboat was launched this afternoon to go to the aid of a fishing boat which was taking in water east of Flotta.

Shetland Coastguard were alerted by the local scallop dive boat Fair Fortune, around 2.30pm.

The boat, with two people onboard, was taking in water and was without steering, in a position to the east of Flotta.

A Coastguard spokesman said that the ferry Hoy Head, which had just left Flotta at the time, headed for the scene, as well as the lifeboat.

He went on to say however, that the ferry was stood down, as the lifeboat crew had taken the vessel under tow, and the ingress of water had been stopped.

The boats were then heading for St Margaret’s Hope.
