Motorcyclist in “serious but stable” condition

A motorcyclist is in a “serious but stable” condition in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following a collision on the main Kirkwall to Stromness road at Tormiston Mill on Sunday afternoon.

The man was involved in a collision with a German-registered Toyota Yaris at around 2.50pm.

Sergeant Derek Robb said the motorcyclist was taken to Kirkwall’s Balfour Hospital by ambulance, and subsequently airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen, where he is receiving treatment.

The road was closed for a time while local police carried out investigations. Officers from the road policing unit, based in Dingwall, are making their way to the county today to carry out further examinations of vehicles, the road and the locus.
