MSP hosts meeting on future housebuilding in Orkney
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur is hosting a meeting between Scottish Water and those involved in housebuilding in Orkney today, Friday. The meeting has been arranged to discuss a range of concerns relating to future development in the islands.
Commenting ahead of the meeting, Mr McArthur said: “The need for new housing in Orkney remains high. In response, the council, Orkney Housing Association and the local construction sector have all been working hard to deliver projects throughout the islands to meet that demand.
“In recent times, however, concerns have been raised with me about Scottish Water’s ability to connect current and future developments. The company insists that it has capacity to ensure these houses are delivered, but I believe it is essential that Scottish Water have a clear sense of what is proposed over the coming years.
“Tomorrow’s meeting provides an excellent opportunity for Scottish Water’s senior management to hear directly from local builders, the Council, OHAL and others about Orkney’s future needs and plans. From these discussions, I hope we will see a joint commitment to make sure that these needs are meet”.
