NHS Orkney picks up IT award
NHS Orkney has won national recognition for best use in Scotland of IT for patient care.
The prestigious award is being made for the board’s work in establishing tele-consultation clinics for the follow up of patients with cancer, diabetic, neurology, rheumatology and cardiology conditions.
The result is that tele-consultation has now been successfully demonstrated as an alternative to more traditional “face-to-face” follow-up.
Over 400 consultations have been carried out in the last two years and feedback from patients has been positive, with 80 per cent reporting they were content to continue receiving follow up via tele-consultation.
