OHAL introduce new property allocation system

OHAL is changing the way it allocates its properties –  giving applicants much more choice about the housing they will be offered.

From June 1, property vacancies will be advertised in The Orcadian and at www.ohal.org.uk. Instead of waiting to receive an offer of housing, applicants will be able to choose which properties they are considered for by responding to the advert.

OHAL chief executive Sally Inkster said: “We believe this new system will benefit applicants by giving them more choice and putting them in control of how their application is dealt with. It will also benefit the Association by ensuring that our offers go to people who are interested in the property thereby reducing the time it sits empty.”

The choice-based lettings system allows the landlord to target particular groups when advertising vacancies and allows the applicant to choose which properties they are considered for.

Once the association has a list of interested applicants, the houses are allocated to those in the target groups who have been assessed as having the greatest housing need.

Anyone wishing to know more about the choice based lettings system can look on the association’s website at www.ohal.org.uk, can email enquiries@ohal.org.uk or contact the association on 875253.
