Orkney COVID cases rise by 10

Ten new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Orkney during the past 24 hours, according to Scottish Government figures published this Monday afternoon.

The county remains second-highest in data ranking infection rates per head of population across Scotland.

Amid mounting cases, this past fortnight, NHS Orkney has continued to urge the public to stick to official guidance when it comes to testing, hygiene and self-isolation.

Widespread community transmission is understood to be behind the growing number of infections.

The rising levels of infection have caused some disruption to businesses, events and other organisations. Last night, Orkney Islands Council announced that Papdale Primary School would be partially closed for several days as a result of a lack of staff due to the virus.

If you develop COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive lateral flow result, you must self-isolate immediately with your household and book a PCR test.

This can be done by phoning 01856 888211.
