Orkney down in infection rate rankings as 16 new cases confirmed

A total of 16 new cases have been recorded in Orkney during the past 24 hours, according to figures published by the Scottish Government.

While the county is continuing to record double digits daily, it has now dropped from first place to sixth in Public Health Scotland infection rate rankings.

NHS Orkney has rolled out a revamped testing regime, this week, with the aim of reducing waiting times for results. There is now no need to phone and book a PCR test, with a drive-through self-testing service up and running at the COVID Assessment Centre (old Balfour) in Kirkwall.

A new phone number has also been introduced for the centre, for enquiries regarding testing. This is 0300 303 9545, which replaces 888 211.

If you develop COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive lateral flow result, you must self-isolate with your household. You and all members of your household should arrange a PCR test.

If you have been contact-traced or “pinged” you must self-isolate and arrange a PCR test. Other members of your household do not need to self-isolate unless you have received a positive lateral flow or PCR result.
