Orkney ultra-marathon runner pleased with race progress
Orkney ultra-marathon runner William Sichel has reported that he is pleased with the progress he is making in his
3,100-mile race in New York after passing the 500-mile barrier this week.
William had covered just over 551 miles at the end of day nine of the Sri Chimnoy Self-Transcendance Race, completing 500 miles on Monday.
The 3,100-mile run is William’s biggest challenge to date, and he is attempting to become the first Scot, first Brit, and first person over 60 years of age, to complete what is the World’s longest certified footrace within the 52-day time limit.
The race, which comes to an end on August 6, has a small field, with 11 men and three women starting the event on June 15.
William’s blog is also being updated at his website — www.williamsichel.co.uk.
He is raising funds for CLAN Cancer Support, and his dedicated webpage can be found at www.justgiving.com/William-Sichel
William added that he wished to thank all the people who had emailed and sent messages of support via social media, adding that the messages are giving him a “huge amount of encouragement”.
