Sichel completes 1,000 miles in New York
Orkney ultra-marathon runner William Sichel broke the 1,000-mile barrier in the early hours of this morning in his latest race.
William, from Sanday, completed 1,000 miles in the 52-day Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence race in New York, in a time of 17 days, 12 hours and 15 minutes.
The 3,100-mile run is William’s biggest challenge to date, and he is attempting to become the first Scot, first Brit, and first person over 60 years of age, to complete what is the World’s longest certified footrace within the 52-day time limit.
The race, which comes to an end on August 6, has a small field, with 11 men and three women starting the event on June 15. William’s blog is also being updated at his website — www.williamsichel.co.uk.
He is raising funds for CLAN Cancer Support, and his dedicated webpage can be found at www.justgiving.com/William-Sichel
