Slow Food group launches at Highland Park

A new group to promote the international slow food movement launches at the Highland Park Distillery, in Kirkwall, this evening.

Fay McKenzie, of the Orkney Slow Food group, explained that, in Orkney, the slow food movement has a head start — because food producers already supply “good homemade food” which is sourced locally. Traditional home cooking is still the preferred way to feed Orkney families, and slow food is a way of life for many across the county.

The Orkney group hopes to tap into this local knowledge base, to promote food produce at a local level for everyone including new residents and visitors and to raise awareness about traditional Orkney fare.
