Stromness slab repair progresses

Repair works in the centre of Stromness are moving forward, with the latest section of Victoria Street to be repaired set to reopen on Monday.

Work between Argo’s Bakery towards Victoria Street/ Church Road junction has reached completion, and slab repairs will now continue along the street.

Next will be from the Church Road junction towards Graham Place, meaning a road closure to vehicles from Hellihole Road/Dundas Street junction. Pedestrian access will be maintained. It is expected this will take six to seven weeks to complete, dependent on weather.

Orkney Islands Council has said that, where possible, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure. These areas must remain closed while this takes place.

The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday working.

The council would like to apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank the public for their ongoing patience.
