Westray woman airlifted to hospital following island road crash

A young Westray female was seriously injured in a car crash on the island in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for ongoing treatment to “serious, but not life threatening” injuries.

Two males were also in the vehicle, however, according to police did not require hospital treatment.

A police spokesman said the car crashed into a wall of a property at Pierowall around 12.15am on Sunday. The vehicle was extensively damaged and the road partially blocked.

The spokesman added: “A full road investigation took place by the road policy unit from Dingwall. Police inquiries are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the local police on 872241.”
