100 North Isles homes still without power

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have confirmed that there are still 100 homes without power in Shapinsay, Eday, and North Ronaldsay, following yesterday’s storms.

With Storm Caroline came power cuts, which meant SSEN’s field teams across the North of Scotland were sparked into action to try to restore power to over 18,000 homes.

Unfortunately, due to the persisting weather conditions, the company were forced to stand down these operatives at 10pm, yesterday evening. This left 500 homes across the region without power overnight.

According to an SSEN spokeswoman, engineers are currently on site fixing both faults in Shapinsay and Eday with an estimated restoration time of 2pm today.

For North Ronaldsay, however, the situation is not so easy to resolve.

“At the moment we are facing access difficulties in getting to North Ronaldsay (we’ve tried getting a boat, hiring a plane and using helicopters) and now are currently liaising with emergency services to get our engineers over there as quickly as possible to fix the damage,” the spokeswoman explained.

Further updates to follow.
