‘A’ League title race to go to wire

St Andrews ensured that the race for this year’s Orkney Cheese ‘A’ League title will go to the wire, after beating Rovers 3-1 this evening.

Rovers needed a point from the match to retain the championship, but two goals from Logan Peace and one from Graham Rendall cancelled out Rovers’ first-half opener.

Fraser Laird, who played in goals for St Andrews, was named as the Swanney Brewery Man of the Match in this evening’s match.

Title-challengers Rendall, meanwhile, won 3-2 in Stromness to ensure that Rovers need to avoid defeat in their final league match against Hotspurs next week to claim the league crown.
