Arctic Convoy Gifts for Lyness Museum
Orkney Islands Council’s work to honour those who served as part of the World War Two Arctic Convoy has been recognised by the Russian Consul
A special commemorative medal and wristwatch presented to the council will be put on display in the Scapa Flow visitor centre in Lyness.
The Arctic Convoy Memorial, which overlooks Scapa Flow, was unveiled in August 2009.
It was jointly funded by Orkney Islands Council, the Government of the Autonomous Province of Ugra in Russia and Russian Hour Television
The Arctic Convoys transported 8 million tons of crucial supplies and munitions to Russia, between 1941 and 1945, supporting the Red Army in their conflict against Hitler forces on the Eastern Front.
