August date set for West Mainland by-election

Following the death of Alistair Gordon last month, a by-election to select a councillor for the West Mainland will take place in August.

Those wishing to stand in the election can obtain a nomination pack from the council offices from Tuesday, June 30.

Completed nomination forms must be lodged at the election office, School Place, Kirkwall, by 4pm on Wednesday, July 15.

If more than one valid nomination is received, an election will be held on Tuesday, August 18, with voting taking place between 7am and 10pm.

The counting of votes will take place on the morning of Wednesday, August 19, in the council chamber.
