Bird flu report confirmed in Holm

The Scottish Government has confirmed that one wild skua has tested positive for the H5N1 strain of high pathogenic avian influenza near St Mary’s village.

The Loch of Ayre Walkway Association in Holm shared the news on Wednesday night that one of the birds there had been diagnosed with the viral disease.

The public has been asked not to approach or handle any birds which appear unwell or dead. Anyone who comes across such a bird in the area should instead contact Orkney Islands Council.
