Bonfire rebuilding underway in Stromness

Stromness Bonfire Night is set to go ahead as planned this evening, following an overwhelming community effort to resurrect the bonfire, which was prematurely lit by vandals last night (Saturday).

Stromness spirits have been rekindled today, as donations of wood have poured in, following the premature ignition of the town’s Bonfire.

Stromness Community Council, who organise the annual bonfire and fireworks display were sparked into action, last night (Saturday), after it was discovered that the bonfire had been lit a day early by pranksters.

Though the bonfire was successfully extinguished, irreparable damage had been done to its structure.

Efforts to save the event soon ignited the passions of the local community, as Stromness Community Councillors sent out an appeal for fire wood.

After an overwhelming response from folk all across the Mainland, Stromness Bonfire Night is set to go ahead tonight as planned.

Gordon Deans, Stromness Community Council chairman, has extended his gratitude for all the kind messages of support from the community and to all those who brought in donations of wood.
