Burial ground improvement funding
The financial details of a proposed five-year plan aimed at improving burial grounds around Orkney is back on the OIC agenda this week.
Elected members of the OIC are to discuss the funding arrangements for the plan at a meeting of the full council tomorrow, Tuesday.
Last month, a meeting of the local authority’s development and infrastructure committee heard that, historically, the council had not had a burial grounds strategy or strategic investment plan to address demand, provision and major improvements required across the county’s 45 burial grounds. The committee supported adopting a five-year plan to do so.
A report before councillors outlined that in the region of an estimated £1 million would be spent over five years, including both capital and revenue works.
