By-election nomination reminder

Potential candidates hoping to stand in the upcoming West Mainland by-election are reminded that nominations close in less than two weeks.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers, which are available from the OIC election office in Kirkwall, is Wednesday, July 15, at 4pm.

If more than one valid nomination is received, an election will be held on Tuesday, August 18, with voting taking place between 7am and 10pm.

The counting of votes will take place the following morning in the council chamber.

The by-election is taking place following the death of Councillor Alistair Gordon.
