Carmichael court hearing comes to a close
The court hearing, at which a legal challenge to the election of Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael was presented, has now come to a close.
The two-day case was heard by judges lady Paton and Lord Matthews in the Election Court, which sat for the first time in Scotland since 1965.
With today’s proceedings finishing at around 3pm, Lady Patton said that the case would now be adjourned to the next part of the trial.
She said that time would be needed to consider the submissions that had been heard, after which a written statement would be issued.
The trial has heard submissions from QC for Mr Carmichael, Roddy Dunlop, and counsel for the Orkney constituents, Jonathan Mitchell QC.
