College inspection highlights high success rates for learners
The rate of students successfully completing courses at Orkney College UHI is “among the highest in the sector” according to a recent report.
The inspection, which was carried out by Education Scotland in March this year, also highlights the strong links the college has with local employers and the partnership working with key local industries to ensure learners are well prepared for the jobs market.
With “almost all learners” at the College completing their programmes and going on to further study, training or employment, the report praises the strong staff and learner relationships, which “build trust and confidence and contributes to high levels of attainment and encouraged learners to attain their full potential”.
The report indicated some areas where improvement could be made, including increasing the range of teaching approaches to include more use of the “virtual learning environment” – computer based learning materials that can be used across all subject areas – encouraging learners to play a more active role in developing the life and community of the College and establishing a more formal means for student representatives to feed back information to their peers.
