Commonwealth flag flies over council offices

The OIC has raised the Commonwealth Flag over the council offices today as part of a celebration of the “family of nations.”

This is the second year that the council has joined local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles and commonwealth countries in local flag-raising events and ceremonies of dedication, to express commitment to the Commonwealth and appreciation of the values it stands for.

Orkney Islands Council convener, Councillor Steven Heddle said: “This is an opportunity for us to jointly pause and reflect on the values such as friendship, co-operation and respect which underpin our Commonwealth family.”
