Community Council elections results

The results for Orkney’s Community Council elections have been published by Orkney Islands Council and, for the eight areas for which a ballot was held, are available here.

Elections by ballot were held in eight Community Council areas earlier this month: Birsay, Evie and Rendall, Graemsay, Hoy and Walls, Kirkwall and St Ola, Sanday, Shapinsay, Stromness and Westray.

In addition, four island communities — Eday, Flotta, North Ronaldsay and Papa Westray — were invited to use their ballot papers to name preferred candidates from within the community, due to the small population size.

The remaining nine community council areas had enough candidates to form a community council without a ballot.

Karen Greaves is the Council’s Head of Executive Support. She said: “We’d like to thank everyone in the community who voted, and of course especially those who put themselves forward as candidates, or who accepted nominations from their community.

“Support of the community council network is an important part of ensuring Council services are responsive to communities’ needs and ambitions.”
