Orkney Islands Council has taken delivery of Christmas trees for inside and outside the St Magnus Cathedral, from Grimstad and Hordland, in Norway, respectively.

The trees were shipped from Norway to Aberdeen and then transport to Kirkwall by Northlink Ferries. Onward transportation was carried out by local firm Northwards.

The trees are delivered each year from Norway as part of the Orkney/Norway twinning relationship.

The Kirk Green tree-lighting ceremony takes place on Saturday, December 5, and incorporates the annual St Lucy Procession as well as a performance by Kirkwall City Pipe Band.

The doors to the cathedral will open at 4.45pm with the tree lighting taking place at 5.30pm.

On Sunday, December 6, at 7.30pm, there will be a cathedral concert courtesy of the Mayfield Singers and visiting Norwegian musicians. A morning service and tree lighting will take place inside the cathedral earlier that day, at 11.15am.
