Deadline for community council nominations extended
The deadline for nominations Orkney’s Community Council has been extended until 5pm on Monday, September 18.
According to Orkney Islands Council, although a number of local folk have stepped up to the challenge and submitted nominations forms, additional nominations are being sought, as a few areas have not reached the minimum number required to establish a Community Council.
Any individual aged 16 or over may stand for the Community Council that represents their home address, providing that they are on the electoral register.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Democratic Services team at the Council by phoning 01856886622 or by emailing maureen.spence@orkney.gov.uk. Further information is also available on the Council website www.orkney.gov.uk.
Councillor James Stockan is the Leader of Orkney Islands Council. He said: “Community Councils feed back to the Council on how a range of proposals might affect specific communities and how the Council’s plans could be improved. They’re also a great way for communities to take the lead in assisting with local service delivery and helping us meet the financial challenges ahead.”
