Drivers reminded to be careful as schools go back
With pupils returning to school this Tuesday, the chair of the local Road Safety Forum is reminding local drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads.
Councillor Andrew Drever is urging drivers to take care and look out for children walking, cycling or crossing our roads, particularly when getting on or off a school bus.
He said: “We’ll have a number of very peedie ones starting school for the first time and we should give special consideration to them.
“Our school crossing patrol officers do a fantastic job of keeping our children safe so please remember to stop well back and allow time for them and the bairns to safely cross the road.
“Parent and children must also remember to take responsibility and to wear high-vis clothing to help them ‘be safe, be seen’, wear a cycle helmet if cycling, wait for a clear gap in the traffic before crossing the road and to use the crossing patrol officer where available.
“If everyone makes a little effort we can all help keep our roads safe.”
