Drumming in ceremony

The annual Riding of the Marches will be drummed in at the Mercat Cross today, Wednesday, August 8, at noon.

Halberdier Bryan Taylor will make the proclamation at the kirk green, before repeating the age-old tradition at the Kirkwall pierhead and the Long Corner, the Doonie and Uppie goals.

The Riding of the Marches will take place on Sunday.

This year’s standard bearer is Sarah Reid, from Firth.
