Emergency group members visit Graemsay
Representatives of the multi-agency Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordinating Group (OLECG) have visited residents in Graemsay following disruption to the island’s water supply.
The group, which brings together a range of organisations including Police Scotland, Orkney Islands Council, NHS Orkney, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the British Red Cross, met again yesterday in response to the water supply disruption.
Chief Inspector Eddie Graham, Police Scotland Area Commander for Orkney, chaired the meeting.
He said: “Our key concern is the welfare of residents in Graemsay. We are maintaining close contact with Scottish Water as it works to restore the regular supply in the island.
“In addition, we’re grateful to the British Red Cross which sent three volunteers to the island today on our behalf, who called on residents to give them the chance to pass on any needs or concerns they might have.
“We are following this up with another visit by representatives of the council and the Red Cross on Thursday, when we’ll also be distributing a leaflet that pulls together a range of safety information and advice we hope will be of use to residents.
“We will continue to make regular visits while this incident continues.”
