Emergency off the west coast of Orkney

Stromness lifeboat and a search and rescue helicopter are this morning heading to the scene of a Spanish fishing boat which is in difficulties in gale force conditions to the west of Orkney.

It is understood that the crew of the vessel issued a mayday after its wheelhouse windows were smashed in heavy seas.
