Ferry operator named in Honours List

Pentland Ferries managing director Andrew Banks has been awarded an OBE, announced in the New Year’s Honours List.

Mr Banks had the honour bestowed on him for services to transport and to the community of Orkney.

Mr Banks and his wife Susan established Pentland Ferries back in 2001, operating the ferry service between St Margaret’s Hope and Gills Bay in Caithness.

Composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies has also been recognised in the New Year’s honours list.

Sir Peter, Master of the Queen’s Music, has become a Companion of Honour for his services to music.
