Festive waste and recycling arrangements

According to the OIC, over the festive period, collections of grey-bin waste will follow the usual fortnightly cycles, but there will be one less collection of green-bin recyclable materials.

For people living in areas A, B, C, D and E (all of Kirkwall and part of Holm including St Mary’s ) the last collection of recyclable items will be in the week beginning December 9.

For these areas, there will be no recycling collection in the week beginning December 23 – the next collection will be in the week beginning January 6.  The same applies for Westray.

For people living in all other areas of the Mainland and the linked South Isles, the last collection of recyclables will be in the week beginning December 16.

There will be no collection in the week beginning December 30 – the next will be in the week beginning January 13. The same applies for Shapinsay.

Recycling centres will operate their usual opening hours except on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2. Cursiter Recycling Centre will be closed throughout this period.
