Police are urging that people take care while out on the roads in Orkney today, Sunday, as there are several areas of standing water on the roads, due to the heavy rain which has fallen overnight.

There are several areas where there is a large amount of water on the roads, with some areas closed off until the water subsides.

A Police spokesman said that this morning, Pickaquoy Road in Kirkwall, and the lower road into Hatston at the Saverock Junction, are both closed, with diversions put in place by the OIC until levels subside.

There have also been several reports of other areas where the standing water is causing problems.

The spokesman added: “People should be aware that there is a lot of water in some areas, in some cases there are diversions put in place, so please allow more time for your journey.”
