Free bus ticket en-route to Orkney households

Kirkwall Travel Centre.

A free Orkney DayRider ticket, worth £7.70, is to be sent to every household in the county, Orkney Islands Council (OIC) has announced.

It is hoped the offer, which will arrive at homes this month along with a bus information leaflet, will encourage people to use more sustainable modes of travel — particularly if folk are finding the price of fuel and cost of living a strain at the moment. The promotional freebie has been funded by OIC.

The leaflet also promotes the Stagecoach Bus app, which allows users to track their bus while they wait.

Contactless payment is accepted on board Orkney buses. Anyone aged under 22, over 60 or disabled can travel for free if they have a National Entitlement Card or Young Scot card with the travel component loaded onto their card.

The summer transport guide is now available, and revised bus timetables can be found online at www.orkney.gov.uk/transport
