Gaan the Distance: The Orcadian and McAdie and Reeve set to hit the road

Two Orkney men are set to hit the road tomorrow, to personally deliver a heartfelt gesture of support from Orkney to the people of Ukraine.

Journalist, Mark Harcus of The Orcadian, and driver, Paddie O’Neill, of McAdie and Reeve, will set sail with Pentland Ferries tomorrow morning, on a five-day trip that will end in Romania.

The Gaan the Distance for Ukraine appeal, hosted by both firms, has attracted widespread support and generosity, since it was established in March.

Now, a lorry and trailer will travel to war stricken families, laden with essential items and aid from across the county.

You can keep up with Mark and Paddie on their travels, via our Facebook page, and you can also track their progress live — more details to follow.

Mark will also be bringing you updates from the road, and coverage and interviews at the handover next Friday.

The Orcadian would like to say a huge thanks to McAdie and Reeve for joining forces with us to make this possible, and to all across Orkney who have contributed in any way.

Stay tuned for progress, as we finally set off to go the distance for Ukraine.
