Garson Recycling Centre disruption ahead

Garson Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Stromness will be closed for four days from this Friday, Orkney Islands Council (OIC) has confirmed.

According to OIC, the temporary closure is due to “operational reasons outwith the council’s control”

The site will be closed from Friday December 3 until Monday, December 6 (inclusive). It is expected to return to normal opening hours on Tuesday 7 December.

Meanwhile the OIC’s waste team has rearranged operations to keep the site open this Wednesday and Thursday.

In the meantime the council has reminded householders that Cursiter Recycling Centre can receive recyclable items only from Monday to Friday, and the Hatston Recycling Centre can receive household waste and recycling from Tuesday to Sunday. The remaining waste and recycling facilities in Orkney continue to operate as normal.

An OIC spokeswoman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and are seeking to ensure minimal disruption to services as far as possible.

“We’d thank members of the public in advance for their patience.”
