Severe weather hits power supplies
Scottish and Southern Energy have said that 889Â customers in Orkney are without power due to the severe weather.
The energy supplier has said that winds of up to 113mph in places have disrupted the electricity network in locations through out northern and western Scotland, with technical staff now working in extremely challenging, and potentially dangerous, conditions to restore supply to 73,000 customers.
In Orkney, problems are being experienced in Hobbister, Kirbister, Shapinsay, Papa Westray, Tankerness and some areas of Kirkwall. The majority of these faults are down to broken wires, caused by either the wind itself or debris.
The whole of Flotta is also without power, although it is hoped that this will be restored this afternoon.
The north end of Sanday will also be without power for a period this afternoon so that repairs can be made.
