Inaugural meeting of Friends of the Orkney Boat Collection

The inaugural meeting of a new organisation, the Friends of the Orkney Boat Collection, is to take place tonight, Thursday.

Jack Drever explained that, with the winding up of the Friends of Orkney Boat Museum, the members of the organisation agreed to set up the Friends of the Orkney Boat Collection, to work with the OIC’s museum service to support the boat collection by sponsoring and manning exhibitions, renovating the boats under the council’s direction, and encouraging research into and publicity for the  collection.

Mr Drever said: “This meeting, in the Ayre Hotel, will seek to gauge support for the new body, agree its aims, and form an interim committee to get things moving.”
