Internet awareness course for KGS parents
An internet awareness course for parents is to be held at the KGS on Wednesday.
The course, developed by the OIC’s learning and development team, will help inform parents about the risks that their children could face online. Ambassador for the UK Centre for Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) and KGS youth worker and youth café manager, Pete Nicol, will be delivering the workshop.
Mr Nicol said: “Research suggests that 35 per cent of young people own a smartphone and 90 per cent have internet access at home. Therefore it’s important that parents are aware of the ways in which youngsters use social media, and are aware of the risks they face, from cyberbullying to sexual exploitation.
“Parents will leave the event with a better understanding of these risks, and advice on how to help their children keep safe online.”
The workshop will be held in the conference room of the old KGS, with entry through the main entrance of the building.
