KGS pupil takes top spot in Fereday Prize 2018
Fourteen-year-old Megan Waterson of Kirkwall Grammar School has taken home the top award in this year’s Fereday Prize for her project Has Westray Processors been of Economic Benefit to Westray?Â
The competition, which has been on the go since 1968, sees S2 history students put their research skills to the test as they investigate Orkney’s past.

With 19 pupils highly commended for their efforts, a further six were selected as the top three projects from each school.
Third Prize went to Gareth McLaughlin (Stromness) and Josie Groat (Kirkwall), while Second Prize went to Jamie Barbour (Stromness) and Courtney Russell (Kirkwall).
First Prizes went to Charlie Fulton of Stromness Academy for his project Why is There Such a Strong Tradition of Home Brewing in Orkney? and KGS pupil Megan Waterson, who was also named the overall winner.
