Loganair continues support for St Magnus Festival

St Magnus Festival is all set to provide us with series of artistic performances, next month, with the help of Scottish airline Loganair.

Loganair will lend its backing in transporting over 100 musicians from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (SSO) to give Orcadians the opportunity to experience a full-scale orchestra without the need to travel to mainland Scotland.

The SSO is the oldest full-time professional orchestra in Scotland, and will present a three-concert residency centring around a large-scale performance with the Festival’s own Chorus. The orchestra will also perform audience favourite, Handel’s Fireworks Music.

The 43rd programme of events will take place from June 21-27, running over the summer solstice. Visitors will be able to attend performances in diverse and eclectic locations including a tall ship, a sports centre, and Kirkwall’s medieval St Magnus Cathedral.

Loganair has worked closely with St Magnus since it was founded in 1977. St Magnus Festival Director Alasdair Nicolson said he and his team were delighted to be continuing their partnership with Loganair again this year.

“Loganair has been an important cog in the engine of the Festival for 43 years now, annually helping us to bring performers and our visiting audience to and from the Orkney islands,” he explained.

Loganair Commercial Director Kay Ryan added: “Loganair is very pleased to support the St Magnus Festival once again, and to help enable world-class musicians to perform at this internationally recognised event set against Orkney’s beautiful backdrop.

“We are proud of our links with the islands and their communities, and greatly look forward to seeing Orkney’s rich and diverse culture displayed at the festival next month.

“It’s been an exceptionally busy period for the airline as we grow our route network. However, with that growth we place great emphasis on improving connectivity to the Isles to ensure important events such as St Magnus continue to grow.”
