Man “acting suspiciously” near birds’ nests detained

police-scotland-logo-2Officers in Kirkwall have detained a 73-year-old man who they say was acting suspiciously near birds’ nests in Orkney on Saturday, June 4.

According to police “a number of items of interest” were recovered which resulted in further inquiries being carried out.

A report has been submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscals Service.

Inspector Alicen Winston said: “Wildlife crime and the detection and disruption of offenders is a priority for Police Scotland.

“I would like to thank the members of the public on Shapinsay who were vigilant and took action which allowed us to investigate the matters reported.

“I would remind the public in Orkney that any suspicious activity which may suggest that wildlife crime is being committed in their area should be reported to Police Scotland on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800555111.

“All reports received will be thoroughly investigated.”
