Man released without charge
A man arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault against a young Orkney woman has been released without charge.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers received report of the sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman in Orkney which occurred on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
“Following enquiries, a man was arrested in connection with the incident and released without charge. Any new information received about the incident will be fully investigated.”
Last Friday, police confirmed they were investigating an allegation of sexual assault in Orkney.
Their statement followed claims which were made online by OIC election candidate Maia Brodie, who is standing for the Scottish Greens in the Stromness and South Isles ward.
Miss Brodie waived her anonymity to make the claims in two public social media posts made on Thursday, and alleged that the assailant was an individual linked to Orkney Islands Council.
The posts have since been deleted.
