OIC harbours over budget while Flotta business declines

According to a report before OIC councillors this week, income from ship-to-ship transfers in Scapa Flow has plummeted by 96 per cent this year, while there has been a 32 per cent reduction in business at the Flotta Oil terminal.

Figures in the Marine Services Annual Performance Report, presented to members of the council’s development and infrastructure committee yesterday, stated that the number of tankers carrying out transfers had gone from nine in 2010-2011, to one this year. This has resulted in a drop in income from £835,233 to £30,310. In 2009-2010, income from ship-to-ship transfers was £3,038,255.

Overall, the Scapa Flow Oil Port made a loss of £1,494,000 in 2011/2012, and despite the OIC’s piers and harbours recording a surplus of £710,000, the harbour authority still ran at a loss of £741,000.
